Planning/Establishment
In order to be registered under the School Education Act 1999, amongst a range of matters to be considered, the Minister for Education must be satisfied that a proposed school is not going to have a detrimental impact on the educational programs of existing government and non-government schools in the catchment area for the proposed school and that the proposed school will meet certain demographic requirements.
Under Section 157 (3) of the Act, the Minister can make an advance determination regarding the matter of detrimental effect. Applications for advance determinations are considered by the Non-Government Schools Planning Advisory Committee, which provides the Minister for Education with advice.
Details of the demographic requirements to be satisfied by new non-government schools are outlined in Section 3 of the Procedures for Establishing and Registering Non-Government Schools.
