Overseas Higher Education Institutions
An overseas higher education institution refers to a university or other higher education provider that is established and operates in a foreign country.
Under the Higher Education Act 2004, an overseas higher education institution must not operate, confer a higher education award or advertise that it will confer an award in Western Australia, without the Minister's approval. Until the implementation of the new national guidelines for approval processes, expected at the end of 2007, each application will be addressed against the Department’s draft Higher Education Guidelines for Approval of Overseas Universities to operate in Western Australia.
