International education

The Department of Education provides significant support for international education in Western Australia.  The key elements of this support include:

International education program

The department provides support for the coordinated marketing of the WA brand of international education through Study Perth, an initiative of Perth Education City.

The department also implements initiatives focussed on promoting a positive experience for students living and studying in WA.  These include:

  • Study West Website – the official State Government website for international students, providing an authoritative source of information for prospective and existing international students in WA.
  • International Student Forum – bringing together international students, representatives of education providers and government agencies to discuss issues currently facing students in WA.
  • Scholarships for international students including the Japanese Studies scholarships and the Miri scholarships with Malaysia.
  • Sponsorship for the WA International Training Provider of the Year award, recognising the best international education provider in the State, as part of the annual WA Training Awards.

Assistance for international students

Intending, current or former international students who have a problem with a private education provider may wish to contact the Overseas Students Ombudsman. The Ombudsman can investigate complaints and may make recommendations to fix a problem. The service provided by the Ombudsman is free.

In cases where an international education provider has defaulted, please refer to the Tuition Protection Service.
