The department manages or funds a small number of scholarships for higher education students. Currently these are:

  • Western Australian Government Japanese Studies Scholarships 
  • Miri Scholarships.

Japanese Studies Scholarships

The Western Australian Japanese Studies Scholarship and the Western Australian/Hyogo Prefecture Japanese Studies Scholarship aim to develop contacts and strengthen professional ties between Australia and Japan.

Applications have closed and interviews will be held in September 2017.

Miri Scholarships

The Miri Scholarships aim to promote good relations between Sarawak (Malaysia) and Western Australia. They are provided in partnership with Curtin University of Technology.

Five scholarships are awarded annually to students at the University's Miri Campus in Sarawak and enable the recipients to complete the final year of their course at the University's Bentley Campus in Western Australia.


Applicants must:

  • be enrolled at the Miri Campus in either the Accounting and Finance Faculty or the Engineering Faculty
  • have achieved academic excellence
  • have the potential to undertake an ambassadorial role.

Applications can be made through the student services office on the Miri Campus.
